Scott Stapp faces divorce issues

Thursday, June 29, 2017

The lead singer of one of the early 2000's most popular bands is facing the end of his marriage as a result of substance abuse problems on the part of the star. Texas residents are probably familiar with the rock band Creed, which came to prominence in 1997 with the release of "My Own Prison." Now, Scott Stapp, the troubled front man of the group, is facing divorce. The divorce issues faced by the couple may be unique, considering Stapp's stardom and struggles with substances.

The couple has been married since 2006 and has three children together. The divorce filing went through last month, and Jaclyn Stapp, the estranged wife, has asked a local court justice to require the singer to enter a rehab facility. She alleges that he has been using drugs and has threatened to hurt both himself and the family.

Recently, Stapp posted a series of videos to his Facebook page, claiming sobriety and rallying against individuals and institutions he felt had maligned him. Since then, the videos have been removed, and Stapp has gone on record saying he regrets posting them. Representation for Jaclyn has stated that she is committed to helping him through his substance abuse issues regardless of the divorce.

Divorce issues for individuals in the public eye can be somewhat more complicated than for a private citizen, but Texas residents understand that many of the same issues are shared by both groups. Divorce can be a complicated process for some, especially if one spouse has external mitigating circumstances influencing his or her ability to effectively navigate the process. Thankfully, support exists for anyone going through a divorce here in Texas.
