Performing artist DMX arrested before show on child support issue

Friday, September 22, 2017

A concert that was recently scheduled to take place in a venue far east of Texas came to an abrupt halt before it even began. The Master of Ceremonies, DMX, was arrested outside the building just before the show was about to start. The reason for the arrest reportedly involved a child support issue.

Police arrested the 44-year-old rap artist for failure to pay child support. Reports indicate that at the time of his arrest, DMX had $400,000 worth of outstanding child support payments due. He has also been accused of bail jumping and attempted robbery. On a recent Tuesday, he was sentenced to a jail term of six months.

Earl Simmons, which is the rapper's given name, was scheduled to be the MC at the Radio City Music Hall show the night of his arrest. He has had five albums debut at the top of the Billboard charts. A spokesman for the musical artist broke the news on a social network so that his fans would know that his upcoming shows in other areas have been canceled due to his incarceration.

Child support payments are typically taken very seriously, and consequences for not paying them can be substantial. Though laws differ in Texas and other states, some non-custodial parents can face monetary fines, denial of tax refunds or suspension of a driver's license for failing to pay child support. Custodial, as well as non-custodial parents, who have questions or concerns regarding the laws in Texas or an individual situation can consult with a family law attorney who has experience in such matters.
