Whether to divorce the house

At the end of the marriage, the couple's house is often one of their largest assets. It can also be the greatest source of property division disputes for couples in Texas. Often, spouses want to continue ownership of the house or buy a new home with the proceeds of a divorce settlement or decree.

Report: divorce is acceptable but less frequent

Statistics about divorce are conflicting. Recent Gallup polling shows that divorce has dropped to the lowest point in forty years but more Americans find it morally acceptable. These figures also show that young adults are delaying their first steps to marriage and couples of all ages choose to live together. Marriage and divorce are seen more as a legal process than a moral choice.

Enforcing a visitation order

Compliance with a court's custody and visitation order serves the best interests of the child. However, there are times where a parent, especially the one with custody, violates these orders and the other parent must seek a legal remedy for denied visits. While there are obstacles, Texas courts provide options.
