Judge fights for visitation rights to see his daughter

Many Texans may have seen images on YouTube recently of an Arkansas family law judge striking his older daughter with a belt. The man's child custody case has received national attention since the video of the beating drew more than 6 million views. At issue in the current child custody case is whether the father should be allowed certain visitation rights with his younger 10-year-old daughter.

Messy divorce tarnishing doctor's image

A former Texas hand doctor has agreed to pay his estranged wife several hundred thousand dollars as part of the couple's protracted divorce proceedings. Divorce attorneys for the doctor reportedly would not comment on the details of the confidential agreement. As such, it is not entirely clear what the money is for. The doctor's soon-to-be ex-wife is reported to have said that the money represents amounts that her husband owed her.

Many surprised as "New Girl" star ends marriage

As readers of this blog likely know, the breakup of a marriage is often difficult. Few people go into a marriage ever expecting to file for divorce, but the simple reality is that many Texas marriages end that way. Fortunately, not everyone who goes through a divorce has to see the details of the separation reported in national news. Celebrities, however, often have that very experience. Still, for others who aren't in the limelight, celebrity divorces can offer important discussion points that can help individuals make the best decisions possible when it comes to dissolving a marriage.

Child custody at risk over $5 sandwiches in Hawaii

Child custody disputes in Texas and elsewhere are not always between parents, and they are not always fair. In a case where policy seems to have trumped reason, a pregnant mother and her husband were taken to jail, while their 2-year-old daughter was taken into custody by the state of Hawaii after the couple failed to pay for two chicken salad sandwiches at a Safeway in late October. The parents had relocated to the Aloha State two weeks before and were searching for a grocery store in Honolulu. They found Safeway and began shopping, but the expectant mother was starving, and the parents picked up and ate two sandwiches as they shopped. They went through the checkout line with the saved wrappers and paid for approximately $50 in groceries, but they forgot to pay for the sandwiches and had no idea such a simple act could be a threat to their child custody rights.

High asset divorce follows high asset wedding for Kim Kardashian

Now that what was surely a high asset wedding has turned into a high asset divorce, how do Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries divide everything and legally part ways? For Texans there appear to be three questions of general interest as we consider what will happen next for the reality star and the successful NBA player, who confront a truly high net worth divorce. While it would appear clear the couple had a prenuptial agreement in place, what did it say? Second, should the wedding gifts be returned? And third, how much is it going to cost each of them financially to untie the knot?
