Texas child support: Holmes receives substantial support for Suri

Tuesday, December 12, 2017

Texas residents following the Holmes Cruise divorce story may be surprised she walked away from the marriage with what some say was nothin g but child support. Although Tom Cruise is a huge superstar and has likely amassed an enormous fortune, Holmes will receive no spousal support and what reports are terming a "modest" amount of child support. For most parents, $400,000 per year in child support is no modest amount, but that's the amount that will be paid for young Suri's benefit until she is 18 years old.

The terms of the agreement also reportedly include restrictions on the young girl's religious upbringing and also state she will not be sent to a "residential school," effectively blocking the possibility she could attend a Scientology boarding school. The child support amount equals $33,333 a month and will be used for her care. However, Cruise will still be required to foot the bill for Suri's education, insurance and the costs of any medical treatments.

An iron-clad prenuptial agreement effectively shut Holmes out of Cruise's estimated $250 million fortune. Holmes could have attempted to fight the spousal support portion of the agreement, but did not do so in order to settle their split quickly. However, the child support money that will now be paid should ensure Suri's continued care until she reaches young adulthood.

For most Texas parents, $400,000 would be an extremely large amount of child support. However, with two high-profile parents, the amount could have been much larger if the divorce case had gone to trial. Holmes not only struck a deal to ensure her daughter is well taken care of, but she also walked away with primary residential and legal custody of the couple's young daughter.
