Family law issues continue to plague Demi Moore, Ashton Kutcher

Sunday, December 10, 2017

Texas readers are likely familiar with the names of celebrities such as Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher. The pair was married for more than six years before they separated last year. He is said to be the highest paid actor on television currently for his work on the hit show, Two and a Half Men, a fact that may be of issue as the parties continue to confront the family law issues remaining between them.

According to a report, the celebrity former couple has worked for the past year to agree on the terms of their high-asset divorce. However, for reasons that are in dispute, the pair has been unable to agree. Now, as is the case in some divorce matters here in Texas, a court will be asked to make the final determination as to how to divide the assets that were obtained during the marriage.

Their separation first made headlines when it was announced that Kutcher allegedly had an affair. Then, divorce papers were filed by Kutcher last December, though Moore had refrained from filing her own documents until recently, citing attempts to agree to terms. Now, the process is expected to proceed in much the same fashion as other, non-celebrity divorce matters often do. It may even go to trial in the coming months, as is sometimes the case in family law matters when the parties continue to disagree.

There are many reasons that people in our state decide to end their marriage in divorce. Once the decision is made, many find it helpful to try and reach a joint settlement. However, when the parties cannot agree, a court will be asked to make the decisions for them. With so much money at stake, it remains to be seen how this family law proceeding will turn out.
