More baby boomers are getting a Texas divorce

Monday, December 11, 2017

According to a national research organization, couples over 50 years old are deciding to end their marriages more than ever before. For these so-called baby boomers, the divorce rate in the past 25 years has doubled. On the other hand, the rate for those aged 25 to 39 has decreased 21 percent. Researchers are uncertain about the reason for these Texas divorce and national divorce trends.

Some analysts suggest that since many baby boomers have divorced before, it is more likely that they will repeat the pattern when they are older. In addition, research shows that a third of the divorces for those over 50 involve couples that were married over 30 years. The trend has created a need for a variety of new products and services for this demographic.

The real estate industry is one that should better adapt to the increase of newly single adults, according to researchers. Not only are more households needed for these people, different types of housing are desired. For example, social interactions are more important to divorced individuals, so the traditional retirement homes would not be appealing.

Another industry that needs to rethink its approach to marketing to this group is financial services. While many retirees are focused on investments, recently divorced baby boomers may need to deal with house payments, credit card debt or life insurance. In addition, food companies should address the needs and tastes of older Americans now living on their own.

No matter what the ages of the parties involved, going through a Texas divorce can be stressful. It would be beneficial to have the support and guidance of an experienced family law attorney while navigating the complicated process. A knowledgeable Texas divorce attorney will evaluate each situation and develop an appropriate strategy to achieve the best outcome for a client.
